Wait. Then Go.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8

"Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” -Matthew 28:18-20

Order matters in the Bible and in our lives. When we get things in the right order, our lives tend to work better. In the Bible the same is definitely true. God tells us to seek Him 1st above things. But another thing we must get right is described in the verses above. God tells us that when He is calling us to do something for His Kingdom purposes, we must get the order right or the results will be disastrous. It is a hard thing for us to do. We must have discipline and obedience in order to get it right. It is very countercultural, especially in today's frantic, tech fueled world.

God tells us we must 1st Wait. Then Go! We must wait on Him for His power to come upon us through the Holy Spirit and then Go! Go doesn’t necessarily mean go 10,000 miles away and be a missionary. It might mean going 10 steps to your neighbor’s house and asking them if they need help with anything. It could mean serving at your neighborhood food shelter. It could mean telling someone who’s down in the dumps that they have high worth. It could mean listening to a child tell you their regrets and shame without judgement. But no matter what your “go” looks like, it will always include going with the power of the Holy Spirit if it is to make an eternal impact. Putting waiting on God 1st above ourselves is the posture needed for success, but then we must “go” in His power.

Alignment matters. We must wake up each morning with a mindset of putting God 1st or the world will swallow us up. Read scripture before scrolling, pray before planning, seek Him before seeking lesser things and over time God’s kingdom rhythm will begin to flow in power throughout your life. His presence will go before you, and His glory will shine through you. You don’t need to fight for it, you just need to make room for it! Wait, then go!
