Transformation
Sometimes we are like Caterpillars that need to become Butterflies to reach our destiny.
"And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit."- 2 Corinthians 3:18
When God is about to take us in a new direction, He often must transform us to fit the weight of the new requirement He is pulling us in to. Old habits many times must die, so new room can be created for the future endeavors. This transformation can be excruciatingly hard at first, but it is never to punish us, but rather to prepare us for what He has in store for us.
There's usually a gap between revelation and assignment as we begin to feel Him pulling us in a new direction. We may become restless or anxious. We are feeling the gap between exposure and empowerment. Many times the calling will seem over our heads, and we quickly realize we can't do it without His power. Think of Gideon in Judges chapter 7 when God whittles his army down from 32,000 to 300. But God reassured Gideon and He reassures us that the victory will be because of His strength and for His glory. His presence will replace our pressure.
God usually must shift us from performance, striving and achieving to silence, surrender and submission. God's plans are eternal, and so He will often hide His voice so we seek His face. What has been built on self must die so what is built on His Spirit can rise. This is not a loss of direction but a repurposing of a deeper us. Put another way, like John the Baptist said in John 3:30 "I must decrease so He can increase." Our ego and pride will push back often but they will be eventually swept up by the transformation that is occurring deep inside of us. I know 1st hand how hard this is, as I have been living it for the last few months. The battle between our flesh and spirit is intense, and I resist change and get scared at the thought of transformation, until I realize and remind myself that He is God and I am not. I don't believe He wants to punish me, but rather is preparing me for my eternal assignment for which I was created.
