C.S. Lewis Quotes- From Ordinary to Extraordinary
God takes our ordinary and adds His extra and the result is extraordinary!
"Hardship often prepares ordinary people to do extraordinary things. " C.S. Lewis We all dislike hardship and going through the valleys of life, but there can be incredible blessings in the valleys. It is the place where we often feel God's presence and proximity in a tangible way. It is where often times hardships lead us to surrender our lives over to God. It is where we realize we aren't in control. Then, we have a chance to invite God in and see what He can do in and through us. In these situations, God can do extraordinary things through ordinary people.
In fact, the Gospel accounts found in the Bible are living proof of this. Jesus took ordinary men, like fishermen, tax collectors and zealots who were heavily persecuted for their faith and used them to change the world. Ordinary men did extraordinary things because they invited God to be 1st in their lives. The result? The blind saw, the deaf heard and the mute spoke. Jesus invited them into many miracles like feeding 5,000 men with 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread. Many were saved and the new Church was born. Some 2,000 years later, their acts of faithful obedience in spreading the Gospel is still bearing fruit, as literally Billions of souls have been saved for eternal darkness.
The early Apostles, all ordinary men, are the square root of all that fruit. Paul summed the heart of C.S. Lewis's quote above in 1 Corinthians 1:27-29 "But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him." God isn't into resumes, He's into surrendered souls who put their faith and trust in Him.
