Remove The Mask
We must remove our masks and let God in to heal our deepest wounds.
We all wear masks from time to time to protect ourselves and to hide from our pain. These are the structures we create in our life to make us more acceptable to others. This includes the image management, the addiction to being needed, the fear of disappointing others.
In my case it involved not dealing directly with the root cause of my pain for 25 years, which was a lack of self-acceptance and a feeling of worthlessness stemming from a broken relationship with my father. But then I encountered God and found that God is not interested in reforming the mask, He wants to resurrect the soul, but to do so He must first let every false structure fall that we have built up to hide behind. These are the scaffolds that held my ego aloft, but they weren't my essence.. and the essence is what God came for. I was focused on presenting my usefulness to a watching world, but God wanted my yieldedness. To get there, you have to endure a season in the wilderness, a scary but necessary place, where God must strip you bare of the false structures in your life in order to rebuild you in His image.
This is the beginning of your rebirth. It is a place of formation. Can you still love God when all you have relied upon from Him is removed and you don’t get the answers you desire? You must allow Him to dismantles every idle in your life. Only then can you begin to walk in the peace He desires for you, a place of deep contentment where the mask is no longer needed. Let God remove your need for a mask, and see yourself as He does: A beloved and chosen child of God who can rest in His love and not have to prove themselves to others ever again. There is freedom in that space that our souls are longing for!
