Receive the free gift
We don't need to earn God's love, we just need to receive His free gift through His Son Jesus
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”- Ephesians 2:8-9
God already achieved everything that needs to be done for you to inherit eternal life through His Son Jesus. All you have to do is receive it. You don’t need to strive or contrive ways that you think will satisfy God. How exhausting is that? God did it all through His Son who was slain as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world- as John 1:29 says.
Jesus took your sins upon himself on the cross once and for all. You don’t need to do something else. It’s already been done. That should be so liberating and exciting, yet so many people struggle with receiving a great and free gift of this magnitude. They would prefer to grind themselves to a pulp trying to earn it in their own way. We like the idea of being responsible for our salvation, like we are for our success in the world. But you can’t add anything to what God already has done through His Son Jesus.
When He resurrected Jesus from the grave, God defeated sin and death once and forever for all who would believe. There is no other religion that claims the resurrection, but they all make you feel the weight of incredible guilt and shame of having to be personally responsible for trying to have to earn you way to God. Does it ever end? Have you ever done enough? How do you know? Is there ever any true freedom or stability in that mindset? God set the standard and took all the shame and guilt away from us all and placed it on His perfect Son, because He knew it was impossible for anyone else to ever live a sinless life. Just accept that life changing grace and be set free! Everything else will only lead you into despair!
