Parable of the Fig Tree
Jesus used things in nature, like a Fig Tree, to tell stories with deep meaning so people could understand.
“Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away."- Matthew 24:32-35
Fig trees are one of the few trees in Judea that lose their leaves every year. When fig trees began to grow their leaves, it was a sign that wheat was about ready to be harvested. Jesus is telling the disciples that the signs He gave them about what was to come (vs. 4–29) would signal that the end was upon them. Jesus often used nature to illustrate deep truths to His Disciples. Basically He is saying that we need to learn to pay attention to what's going on around us, just like we do in nature with something like a Fig Tree.
