Get wisdom.

Information without wisdom is at best useless and at worst can be destructive.

The internet is filled with information, but that doesn't come with a guaranteed dose of wisdom. In fact, information without wisdom can be downright dangerous. The Bible implores us to "get wisdom." In fact Proverbs 4:7 says "The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding." There is an urgency there. Wisdom is what allows us to take information and use it for constructive purposes. On the other hand, information alone without wisdom can lead to destructive traits like pride and arrogance.

I recently tried a social media fast for a few days to see how I would react to missing even a few days of "news" or "information." It was shocking to me how hard it was to not click on stories or not want to know the news or not want to check stock quotes. It made me feel unsettled to not know.

All I can say is it made me realize how distracted we are from knowing God when we have so much information just waiting for us to click on each day. It really does take discipline and focus to choose God. It seems like the enemy has set it up this way to make us constantly distracted, so that we cannot hear God‘s voice. We must be very intentional about choosing alone time in order to seek him to find him to hear from him. The level of anxiety in my system of the need to know was shocking.

My quick conclusion was we need Information to feel like we’re in the “know." Maybe this is how in someway, shape or form we seek affirmation? But this is not how we were meant to live. It is hard to trust God above all else when we have so much information readily available at our fingertips. It’s easy for us to make Google God, rather than Yahweh God. The distractions are everywhere. We truly must seek wisdom in order to seek and find God. Otherwise, the deluge of information will drown out His voice.
