Blessed Are The Peacemakers
Peacemakers are blessed because they change the narrative in a hostile world.
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God."- Matthew 5:9
We know from the Beatitudes that Jesus ascribes high value to those who are willing to be Peacemakers. The peacemakers are blessed because they live from peace with God. You can't have peace with the world until you have peace in your own soul. A restless heart cannot offer rest to others. This is not the result of our striving, but the fruit of grace. This is the freeborn out of our connection to the Vine. Peacemaking is an outward fruit of the spiritual life.
We cannot offer what we do not have. To be a peacemaker is not to manufacture peace out of human will. It is to participate in something already accomplished. The cross is the place where peace was made, once and for all, fully and finally. His truth sets us free. This is not just about spiritual tranquility. It is about restored relationship. We who were once far off have been brought near. Nothing stands between us anymore. We have been reconciled back to God at the cross.
We no longer need to strive for worth or to earn our identity or to fear judgment. Jesus said in John 19:30 "it is finished!" We must be sure we are living like that is true, and peace should be a natural fruit of that reality. You must return to that place daily. We must daily surrender so that grace can have the final word. The world‘s chaos must be replaced with peace and order. We make peace with God because he has already made peace with us. The peacemaker is one who knows they are already home. This is why they are called children of God. We make peace in the world because we are part of God’s cosmic reconciliation, and we must share that peace through reconciliation with other others. That is part of God‘s full circle restoration plan.
