Light vs darkness
There is an epic battle playing out between light and darkness. But take heart, Jesus is the light of the world, and He has overcome the darkness.
2Corinthians 4:4 says “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”
The Bible talks about the overarching story of darkness vs light throughout its pages in a way that is reminiscent of the great battle depicted in Star Wars. It is a battle of good vs evil, truth vs falsehood, and light overcoming the darkness.
We see in the scripture above, darkness covers the eyes of unbelievers through deception and in their hardened hearts they are unable to see the truth of who Jesus is. For us to be able to see who Jesus truly is, we must have a heart posture that allows us to do so, and this means that the walls of pride in our mind must come crashing down. Only through the process of dying to our pride can God have access to our hearts where all real transformation must take place. Why? Jeremiah 17:9 tells us: “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?”
We have wicked and deceptive hearts that need transformation in order to become more like Christ, so His light can shine through us to a dark world. That is how we become His hands and feet. That is why when the disciples asked Jesus what was the greatest commandment, in Matthew 22:36-37, He starts with loving the Lord God with all of our hearts. Notice our mind is last. This is very telling. This lets us know that God wants to work on changing our hearts above all else because our hearts are full of envy, jealousy, anger, rage, lust, unforgiveness and many other things that need cleaning up. “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law? ”Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
Throughout scripture we see the Light of Jesus revealing the darkness or evil that resides in human hearts. His light is penetrating and it brings our darkness into the presence of His light, which is a very good thing if we acknowledge it and repent of it. What is hidden or denied cannot be healed, it must be brought into the light. Then we can repent of it and be made clean, which provides more room for Christ’s light to shine through us. Shine on mighty warriors for Christ.
