Finding fruit in a season of dryness

God alone can refresh us in seasons of dryness.

I have been walking through a dry desert ever since covid-19 unexpectedly struck our planet in 2020. The things that used to be a part of my world have dried up. The business I used to thrive in has gone away. The mindset that things will return to normal have been replaced with the stark realization that they never will. The encroachment of technology into every day living makes people more isolated and insulated and hardened in their viewpoints, which makes life miserable for an extrovert like myself. Yes, the past 5 years have been very dry years, and every door closed can wear us down.

However,, this has also been a glorious time in the sense that I have seen and relied upon Jesus more than ever before, and He is the rock upon which my foundation has remained firm. He has refreshed me by His Spirit in these dry times, and I have never felt closer to Him. When I have needed Him most, He has not disappointed. When the world seems very dry and mundane, He brings life and restoration, and new hope. Here's what I have found: Only Jesus can satisfy the longing in our soul for internal freedom. Only Jesus can heal our deepest wounds. Only Jesus can mend our broken hearts. This world leaves us scarred, and barren, but Jesus turns our scars into testimonies and our pain into purpose. In dry seasons of life, when nothing seems to work, God’s presence alone can sustain us and ultimately refresh us. Without Him, we just shrivel up and die. With him, all things are possible!

Jeremiah penned a similar heartfelt message in Jeremiah 17:7-8. It's what makes the Bible so powerful, and so relevant. Even though it was written a few thousand years ago, it spoke directly to my heart in my current situation. I hope it will do the same for you. let it's promises refresh and renew you and put a new countenance in your step.

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought

and never fails to bear fruit.”- Jeremiah 17:7-8
