Lessons for Life
Lessons are brought from all directions and we just need to pay attention to grab them.
Sometimes quotes from books you read really speak to you in the moment in a way that causes you to really pause and reflect at the magnitude of their conveyance. Below are three such quotes that I have been pondering and I wanted to share.
The day the child realizes that all adults are imperfect, he becomes an adolescent; the day he forgives them, he becomes an adult; the day he forgives himself, he becomes wise.
Alden Nowlan
I wish I had learned this earlier in my life when I had no guardrails around what I expected from my parents, other than perfection. I think we all think our parents are able to do all things, but we forget they are just imperfect souls like us. So, we need to be quick to forgive them when they let us down. Then, as we grow we also need to learn to forgive ourselves and this can be an even harder lesson. Self forgiveness requires emotional intelligence and grace, and it can be quite hard to apply to ourselves.
"Jesus promises those who would choose to follow Him only these three things: that they would be absurdly happy, entirely fearless, and always in trouble."- Gregg Levoy
This is so important to remember because the enemy of our souls has a way of turning following Jesus from a blessing to a burden. We must remember what a wild adventure we are invited into when we follow Jesus!
Whenever you obey God, His seal is always that of peace, the witness of an unfathomable peace, which is not natural, but the peace of Jesus. Whenever peace does not come, tarry till it does or find out the reason why it does not. If you are acting on an impulse, or from a sense of the heroic, the peace of Jesus will not witness; there is no simplicity or confidence in God, because the spirit of simplicity is born of the Holy Ghost, not of your decisions. Every decision brings a reaction of simplicity.- Oswald Chambers
Are you following Jesus in a way that brings more peace? Of course, we live in a broken and fallen world, but peace is available to us if we truly put Jesus first, and pray often. It is not circumstantial. Philippians 4:6-7 says "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
