In search of Peacemakers

In Jesus' most famous teaching ever, the Sermon on the Mount, in Matthew 5:9 He says "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." Do you think the world can use some peacemakers right now? If you're like me, you probably have wondered how you can be a peacemaker? After all, only a few people hold political office that make decisions that truly effect geo-political situations or global peace.

However, what I have come to learn is that we can all be peacemakers right where we are planted. Whether in a home dealing with our family, in an office dealing with employees or in a myriad of social situations we encounter, we can be used by God as instruments for peace. We can be peacemakers by the tone we use when talking with others, by being good listeners, by allowing for and encouraging different opinions, and by not allowing emotions to degrade into personal attacks or divisive or destructive behavior.

The truth is the world is being fueled by divisive, deceitful and destructive voices speaking in and through media for their own agendas that is tearing us apart. The world desperately needs peacemakers who can sow unity out of division, truth out of deception, purpose out of distraction and hope out of destruction. Are you willing to be a peacemaker? Jesus promises you are blessed if you will be one in a world desperate for them.
