Gratitude

Gratitude is the attitude that lifts your altitude.

"He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord."- Deuteronomy 8:3

One of the teachable moments from the Israelites 40 years spent in the wilderness is how God only gave them enough food, or Manna for each day so they had to rely on Him every day. He knew how easily their hearts could become proud, for they had a long history of such behavior, and so God wanted them to depend on Him each day for their basic needs. There is a certain rhythm and trust that is built up over time when we must depend on God each day for our wellbeing.

We quickly forget how much need we have for God if we happen to have a ton of abundance stored up for ourselves. We quickly think we can solve any problem with our wealth, and so God quickly gets put into the 'not necessary" file. God doesn't want to see this happen to us because He knows that when we try to do life without Him, we usually end up in bad places. Left to our own devices, we usually choose things that satisfy our flesh but not our spirit, the very sinful rebellion that leads to our demise. God is not a cosmic killjoy and He doesn't need anything from us, yet He wants us. He wants our hearts above all else. When we remember Him daily, and thank Him for meeting our needs and for providing our "daily bread" we tend to be more grateful and have hearts that are more at peace. David understood this when he penned Psalm 23:1 "The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing." When you depend on and trust in the Lord, you will find that you truly lack nothing!
