Good roots, good fruit

Good fruit can't come from bad roots

"If my life is fruitful, it doesn’t matter who criticizes me; if my life is fruitless, it doesn’t matter who praises me" C.S. Lewis Our life only provides good fruit when it comes from good roots. At the core, we need to stay connected to the One source of truth- God himself. He’s the Vine, we are the branches. If we stay connected to him, we will bear much good fruit because he is good. But if we ignore God, eventually, we will not bear good fruit because we do not have a firm foundation, and our roots are not based on deep truth.

If the root is bad, the fruit will be bad no matter how many times we desperately try to change the fruit eventually the bad root will overcome it. So for real lasting change, we need to eliminate the roots that weigh us down. What are they in your life? We need to extract the roots of sinfulness usually born out of our emotions, such as anger, jealousy, bitterness, unforgiveness, worry, fear, and greed. The key is to have our roots firmly planted in the truth of who we are, because of who God is. We are lavishly loved and intimately known, and we can trust in the One who holds all of time in his hands.

"Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” - John 8:32
