Freedom from within
Freedom from within comes from asking God to help us heal our shame and woundedness.
We all have sorrow, and we all have wounds. In order to get healing, we need to be vulnerable enough to admit that we have sorrow, and we are wounded, and ask for God's help. God can heal them both but we may need to learn to forgive, even forgive ourselves for the mess we have made of our lives, in order to receive the freedom from the shame or wound we are carrying. The famous Theologian and Philosopher Augustine once said “in my deepest sorrow, I saw your glory and it dazzled me.” We all need that glory to smother our pain, shame and woundedness.
God's Kingdom truly works in mysterious ways, but it does hold eternal truths that are applicable to anyone's life who is willing to come to the Lord and receive Him as Savior. The virtuous cycle of being forgiven, and then forgiving others, is what truly sets us free. 2 Corinthians 3:17 says “where the spirit of the Lord is there is freedom.” I have found this to be so true in my life. I was shackled and held hostage by unforgiveness. I was letting the pain of a broken relationship with my father imprison me, and it was squeezing out and choking the life inside of me. It wasn’t until I forgave him that I was truly set free from my wounded sou. Then I learned how to teach others how to forgive.
When we receive Christ’s love through the power of the Holy Spirit, that is the beginning of the reconciliation that we so desperately need deep in our soul's. CS Lewis in his famous book, “Mere Christianity,” spoke of God‘s presence as “a great fountain of energy and beauty spurting up at the very center of reality. If you are close to it, the spray will wet you; if you are not, you will remain dry. Once a man is united to God, how could he not live forever? Once a man is separated from God, what can he do but whither and die.” How could we not want to get drenched in the spray of God's love and grace? It is the only thing that can truly set you free.
