Eternal perspective is needed

A shift in focus from here and now, to there and then is required to make sense of this broken world. God has all of eternity to work things out.

“Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” Revelation 21:1-8

God has made us for eternity, according to scripture like Ecclesiastes 3:11 and many others. This perspective is critical if we are to trust God and His sovereignty. We see His character on the Cross so we can trust His love. But unless we see things through his eternal lens, nothing makes much sense. The news highlights all the tragedies in the world. Every day we can feel despondent and depressed if we only look at things through the lens of current events that the media pushes on us. But the Bible says that the enemy is the prince of the air and his purpose is to deceive. distract divide and destroy us.

When you look around, you can see he’s doing a pretty effective job. But God is sovereign above all that. God is a god of love and of peace. He calls us to be peacemakers, He tells us that we are each other‘s friends, and that we are to love one another. We should listen to what the Bible says more than what any local news channel says. The agendas are quite different. God is love and He will work all things out in his eternal timeframe. You were made for a purpose, and your purpose is to become more like Christ. What does that mean? It means you must become more compassionate, more selfless, more loving. You must trust him more and trust yourself less. You must live by the spirit and not by the flesh. You must put others before yourselves and seek to help others. The world would call that foolish and insane. But that's why so many are so unhappy- they are hyper focused on only themselves and narcissism is a cruel way to seek happiness.

We all have lessons to learn in this life, and they will be used by God for eternity. Our souls are eternal, while our physical bodies are temporary. But God promises one day He will give us a new heavenly body that will never get sick, never die, and He will wipe away every tear from our eyes. He will reunite our soul with our new heavenly body, and we will live with him in eternity forever. That is a hope that cannot be influenced by the negative news cycled that is led by the enemy of our souls, "the prince of the air," as satan is called in Ephesians 2:1-2.
