Don't chase the worlds mirages
Where do you turn when you reach your "there" and find out there is no
"there" there?
I have gotten to "there" only to realize there is no "there" there. I had all the world told me would fulfill me, but I still felt empty. I had tons of friends, but still felt lonely. Where do you turn when this reality slaps you across your face? Most double down, try harder, or think the next $10 million or whatever your number is will make you feel better. A faster car, a bigger house, more toys, more women but what about the emptiness in your soul that runs so deep you can't even sleep at night? Where do you turn then? Well, I finally in desperation turned to Jesus, and to my surprise He made me never feel lonely, even when alone. He gave me joy even when my circumstances were not great. He gave me purpose and peace when I had none before.
So what mirage are you chasing? The world will give false narratives that never satisfy. They will make you chase something elusive that never satisfies. When you reach your “goals” and they don’t satisfy where do you turn? What is the cost of chasing the world’s illusions? Many people leave a trail of destruction in their wake, chasing money or fame, only to find they don’t satisfy the longings in their soul. The world will lead you over a cliff, and no one is there to catch you when you fall.
God gives us a much more solid foundation on which to build our lives. God 1st, family second, work and everything else after that. Why? Because only God can satisfy the deepest yearning of our heats and soul. His word in the Bible is His treasure for us, filled with wisdom and power. It is a firm foundation we can stand on when the storms of life come, and they always do come. God gives us strength and love to know we are valuable and our lives have deep meaning and purpose. He gives us the tools we need to find deep contentment and joy, even when are circumstances may not warrant it. He in the anchor and the rock on which we can stand.
Psalm 37:4 says “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart." Who doesn’t want this? Everything else is shifting sand. Trust in Him, and not in the world's mirages.
