C.S. Lewis gives us another shot of deep wisdom wrapped in a seemingly simple message above, however it is one that many people struggle to implement in their lives. God tells us throughout scripture that He wants a relationship with us above all else, however we often seek relationships with anything other than God. This leaves us in a constant state of uncertainty with little or no peace because anything other than God is unstable by its very nature. People can let us down. Money can grow wings and fly away, or we learn it can never truly satisfies our inner longings for purpose and meaning. Jobs can come and go. Our kids grow up fast and move out. Our bodies age quickly. We can feel overwhelmed with change and uncertainty if we aren't focused on the stability of God as the Anchor for our soul.
We must learn to not put our hope in things we can lose because if we do, we will always feel unsettled. We can't lose Christ once we accept Him as Lord & Savior, but to find real peace we have to seek Him 1st each day. Everything else is shifting sand. Life will never be 100% certain, that is why we need faith in the 1st place, but we can be certain that God is the best place to put our focus and our trust in because He never let's us down, and He alone promises to never leave us or forsake us, in Hebrews 13:5. "Christ alone, the cornerstone, the weak made strong in the Father's love. Through it all, He is Lord, He is Lord of all." Sometimes we need good song lyrics to remind us of who truly is on control. Thankfully, it is the One we can find true stability in when everything else is falling apart.
