Pruning to create room for new growth

Sometimes we must get rid of the old to make room for the new.

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."- John 15:1-5

Jesus talked about the need to prune things in our life to make more room to create more abundance. In the short term, pruning is so painful but necessary to create room for future growth. God must prune away things you look to other than him for your security, for your purpose, or for your abundance. He knows exactly what you need and He knows what has to be cut back in order to create room for the new he is bringing. If there is an overt sin in your life that is hampering your ability to grow, He will make you aware of it and ask you to remove it. If you don't then He will create discomfort around it until you do. He wants to protect you, but you must be willing to play a part in protecting yourself as well. A bad relationship or habit must be done away with to make room for something better. It seems straight forward, but many people struggle with this because of their enjoyment of their sin above God's warnings about the consequences of it.

We must learn to understand that God is love, He wants what is best for us and He will never remove something from your life without replacing it with something better. This can be hard to believe when every door seems shut and everything we once counted on is being taken away, but that is part of the character building process that we must go through in order to build a deeper trust in God, so that we can bring him glory when he brings the blessings. Our roots must be strongly built in Him, so we can handle the increase when it comes.

Elevation cannot come without excavation. Old patterns, old habits and old obstacles must be uprooted and cleaned out in order to create room for new growth.
