Parables of Jesus- The Parable of the Sower

Jesus teaches us proper alignment for maximum results and peace in our lives.

As we continue on with learning real life lessons through the Parables of Jesus, today we are looking at the Parable of the Sower in Matthew 13:3-23 which really helps us with alignment in our lives. In the Parable of the Sower, Jesus uses the image of various kinds of soil to contrast different heart responses to the gospel: 1.The path: Hard ground where the enemy snatches away the seed of the gospel before it has a chance to take root. 2. Rocky places: Soil that is too shallow for the root of faith to survive 3. Thorns: Soil where there are too many allegiances vying for space. 4. Good soil: Ground where the gospel can take root, flourish, and reproduce and produce great abundance.

Basically, Jesus teaches that there are many things vying for our time and attention but not all of them are good. In fact, anything that is 1st in your life above the Kingdom of God is misaligned. Most people, including myself, struggle at times by getting things out of order. For most of us, focus on work and the chasing after temporary riches tends to kick Jesus to the curb. When this happens we need to realign the posture of our hearts and remember to seek Him 1st. ( Matthew 6:33, Jeremiah 29:13 )

Let the Parable of the Sower and Jesus's explanation of it guide you in how you allocate your time and energy and He promises you an abundance of blessings when you do.

"Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. Whoever has ears, let them hear.” -Matthew 13:3-9

“Listen then to what the parable of the Sower means: When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.” Matthew 13:18-23
