Hard Fought Hallelujah

Song lyrics can powerfully capture exactly how we are feeling in a moment of time.

“I’ve struggled with the darkness, but I’m trying to reach for the light. The struggle keeps me honest, and it breaks down the walls of my pride. Cause faith isn’t proven like gold, until it’s been through the fire. My head, heart and hands are feeling heavy, that's when I lift them just a little higher. I'll bring my hard-fought, heartfelt been through hell hallelujah. I'll bring my storm-tossed, torn sail, story to tell hallelujah. God you've been patient, God you've been gracious, faithful whatever I'm feeling or facing.”- Brandon Lake from the song Hard Fought Hallelujah

Sometimes song lyrics can speak the exact truth your heart and soul needs to hear. The song lyrics above did that for me recently. The song is such a powerful reminder of the intensity of the battle we face in our Christian faith. It is certainly not easy, and sometimes it's downright difficult, but God always works through the fires of affliction we face to refine and both grow and strengthen our faith.

Sometimes it feels like we're a sailboat that has been through a vicious storm and we barely survived with just a torn sail left. That is the little bit of hope we need to keep going. But eventually we get to calm waters and we find out that the journey has strengthened us. God promises "He will never leave or forsake us," in Hebrews 13:5 so we need to press on in the midst of the storms of life. Eventually we will be able to look back and see His hand was on us the whole time.
